Overview

Kentucky is home to nearly 7,000 salaried pharmacy technicians. This means, the state’s population of pharmacy technicians accounts for more than 2 percent of the nation’s 334,400 salaried technicians. Aspiring pharmacy technicians choose The Bluegrass State for:

The State of New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy has a number of requirements for pharmacy technicians. First, all pharmacy technicians must register with the Board in order to be employed by a pharmacy and “assist in performing, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, manipulative, non-discretionary functions associated with the practice of pharmacy and other such duties and subject to such restrictions as the Board has specified.” Next, all pharmacy technicians must renew registration annually on March 31.

According to demographic employment information recently collected by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, roughly 8,540 people in Virginia are employed full time as pharmacy technicians.  Pharmacy technicians are trained healthcare professionals who assist licensed local pharmacists with legally regulated activities such as mixing, reconstituting, packaging and labeling prescription medications. 

The State of Wisconsin Department of Professional Services, Pharmacy Examining Board does not specify requirements for aspiring pharmacy technicians. This means completion of a pharmacy technician training program and certification are completely voluntary. Although you do not need a degree or certification to become a pharmacy technician in the state of Wisconsin, most top employers prefer a certificate or degree, certification, and some experience in the field.
