Maryland Pharmacy Technician Training Programs

The State of Maryland Board of Pharmacy has several requirements for anyone interested in working as a pharmacy technician in the state. Aspiring pharmacy technicians must register with the Board and complete a Board approved training program or a national pharmacy technician certification program. Board approved training programs must be a maximum of six months long and include 160 hours of work experience.

The Board offers the following information for future pharmacy technicians:

Pharmacy Technician Registration Requirements

The following information applies to pharmacy technicians who are nationally certified, non-nationally certified and for technicians who are licensed and/or registered in another state. 

All applicants must submit a signed completed application, which includes:

-Proof of birth date (legible photocopy birth certificate, passport, driver’s license)

-Application fee ($45 check or money order)

-Proof of request for a State Criminal History Record check

-Proof of National Certification, Passing Examination, or Other State Registration, if applicable. 

IN ADDITION:

Nationally Certified Applicants Must Submit:

-Evidence of current certification by a national pharmacy technician certification program (legible true photocopy of certificate)

Non-Nationally Certified Applicants Must Submit:

-Evidence of successful completion of a Board approved pharmacy technician training program, which includes 160 hours of work experience, and

-Evidence of having passed a Board approved technician examination (legible photocopy of documentation showing program completion and a passing score)

Reciprocity Applicants Must Submit:

-Evidence of registration in another state under requirements similar to the registration requirements of Maryland (legible photocopy of state registration), and

-Evidence of being in good standing in the state or states of current registration (letter of good standing from state Board)
