26. West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, Morgantown, West Virginia
Founded in 1867, West Virginia University is a Top 100 Public University by U.S. News & World Report. The school, which sits on a 1,099-acre campus, is home to nearly 30,000 students enrolled in 184 degree programs across 15 colleges and schools. This includes the School of Pharmacy

In 2005, the WV Higher Education Policy Commission designated the West Virginia School of Pharmacy a “Program of Excellence.” The School offers a Pre-pharmacy program, Pharm.D., and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences with two pathways including Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences (PPS) and Health Outcomes (HO).

Established in 1908, the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy was the third Pharmacy School in the U.S. to offer the Pharm.D. degree. Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) was established in 1838 as the Medical College of Virginia (MCV). The school is home to more than 31,000 students enrolled in over 220 certificate and degree programs across 13 schools and one college. Virginia Commonwealth University sits on a 143-acre campus and it has 33 nationally ranked programs.

The VCU School of Pharmacy was established in 1898. In 1971, it became one of the first schools in the U.S. to provide a 640 hour clerkship program. This program required all pharmacy students to spend their final year in a practice under the “supervision of faculty preceptors.”

34.Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, Kingsville, Texas
The Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, on the Texas A&M University-Kingsville campus, was established in 2006 in response to the shortage of pharmacists in the border region of Texas. It is ranked in the Top 50 for pharmacy programs in the country within a record time, as per the recent U.S. News and World Report rankings. The College operates from a three-story, 63,000-square-foot facility and it consists of two departments—the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Offerings include the doctorate in pharmacy and a Dual Pharm.D./MBA program.

The professional student pharmacists at the Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy attain and practice their skills with the largest preceptor network in the state of Texas, 915 members strong.

Today, 44 percent of the college’s graduates have returned to South Texas to help underserved populations. The college’s leadership strives to entrench a culture of excellence, education, research, practice and patient care to each professional student enrolled.
